Counting on my Fingers

I had to go back and count cocktail entries today to figure out where we’re at in this season of wassail.  This is number ten.  You’re welcome.  The husband was happy with this cocktail because he got tacos for dinner last night.  He doesn’t like tequila (bad experience from which he’s never recovered), but he knows that if I’m mixing a holiday margarita that he’s going to get a little Feliz Navidad.

You may have gathered, by now, that I am a fan of citrus.  I believe a good three-quarters of the cocktails I’ve prepared for you this year have included a citrus element.  Lime is my favorite.  Because of gin.  The margarita, however, called for blood orange.  And lime.  Because lime goes with everything.

The drink comes from Nutmeg Nanny.

I mixed it just as dictated in the recipe.  And, this is what it looked like:

What is that?  A child’s portion?  I doubled it and it was just right.  Well, almost.  It seemed just a bit on the tart side so I poked my head into the refrigerator.  Remember all of those simple syrups that I’ve been building this season?  I pulled out the cranberry and added a bit of that…mmmmmm…that was the ticket.  If you’re interested, you can find the recipe here.

Blood Orange Margarita

2-3 oz tequila
2 oz grand marnier (or knock-off equivalent)
2 oz fresh lime juice
4 oz fresh blood orange juice

Pour all ingredients into a glass of your choice.  Stir.  Add ice.  Enjoy!
