Weekly Photo Challenge: Structure

“Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.” — Henry David Thoreau

At first glance, this week’s challenge, structure, makes one think of human-made structures.  Towering buildings and sprawling bridges.  But, we were encouraged to seek structure in nature.  First thought?  Spider webs.  Right?  Talk about structure! However, I couldn’t find any really good, fully formed webs as I wandered around in the yard.

Then my eyes fell on these daisies, freshly planted because I’m slowly relinquishing my hold on summer (reluctantly).  Still speckled with morning dew they fairly glowed in the morning light.  Their structure is truly amazing, if you start to think about it.  Relatively uniform in shape, size and color…not made so by the hand of man (okay, we’ll give some credit to the nursery, but not much)….flowers represent amazing structures.  Home to itty bitty bugs.  Food to butterflies and bumblebees.  Candy to the human eye.  Pretty amazing, huh?
