A small town, storefronts decked out in preparation for the big parade held the day after Thanksgiving. Nostalgia is around every corner. Maybe that’s it, then…it wouldn’t be this time of year (from now through Christmas) without feelings of nostalgia. In a good way.

Welcome to Tales from the Upper Left! I’m an Oregonian by birth, and a Washingtonian (upper left...get it?) by choice. I share my life with a husband named Jonathan and a cat named Colby Jack (he’s orange...like cheese). I dabble in photography (passionate hobbyist), hike when the opportunity arises, drink wine whenever the mood strikes me and travel not often enough. Predictable Washington blog? Nah. I promise! Perfect photo! Really. Perfect. And I love the way the banner photo cropped it. It almost makes me think I could like Christmas again if I put my mind to it. In Coeur d’Alene? I’m betting the Chamber of Commerce would love to have that photo. Kudos, my friend!

Thank you, Gretchen! 🙂 I tried a number of angles and this seemed to come out the best. There were others that showed more of the dazzle in the front window, but forced me to cut out the Christmas lights along the eaves. Yes, in Cd’A…we’re visiting my husband’s family.

And how did you get the perfect man in the perfect clothes in the perfect pose to cross the street right then?

Sometimes a little luck just falls right into my lap. 🙂 I suspect he was a resort employee headed to work the evening’s holiday festivities. I saw him headed my direction as I was taking photos of the street and managed to catch him in the scene.

I thought this looks like a much smaller town than Coeur D”Alene. I can’t help notice the man crossing the street and think of Scrooge walking home from his office, but the snow flakes are absent. Still, looks like a good set for the play.

Downtown Cd’A will sometimes surprise you with that small town look! He was a pretty friendly looking Scrooge. 🙂 But, he does have the feel, doesn’t he? Cue the snow!!
