I have today off of work (thanks, Veterans!), so I grabbed my camera and went on the hunt for tiny. I found lots of little things…leaves, shells, and mushrooms. Lots of mushrooms.
The minute I saw this little ‘shroom I knew I had a winner. Tiny but vibrant, this little mushroom stood maybe a half an inch tall. The cap was maybe the size of my pinky fingernail. Gloriously tiny. These are the details of nature that I love.

Welcome to Tales from the Upper Left! I’m an Oregonian by birth, and a Washingtonian (upper left...get it?) by choice. I share my life with a husband named Jonathan and a cat named Colby Jack (he’s orange...like cheese). I dabble in photography (passionate hobbyist), hike when the opportunity arises, drink wine whenever the mood strikes me and travel not often enough. Predictable Washington blog? Nah. I promise! Thanks, Karen! There was a bright yellow one, too…same size…but it didn’t photograph as well.
