Wordless Wednesday

Welcome to Tales from the Upper Left! I’m an Oregonian by birth, and a Washingtonian (upper left...get it?) by choice. I share my life with a husband named Jonathan and a cat named Colby Jack (he’s orange...like cheese). I dabble in photography (passionate hobbyist), hike when the opportunity arises, drink wine whenever the mood strikes me and travel not often enough. Predictable Washington blog? Nah. I promise! The red roof through the fog is cool. Is this your weekend getaway home?

If my weekend getaway home was a creepy looking mansion on a hill in Portland then….yes! 🙂 It’s Pittock Mansion. I’ll be sharing more about it in the next day or so. (Teaser!)

I like what you are doing here. Nice atmosphere.
I think I would have moved over to the right to use the path more to lead the viewer up to the mansion. The change in perspective might make the garden on the left work to frame it better, also.
I like the Feature Image crop because it removes the expanse of lawn at the base and gets me closer to the mansion. That bottom lawn keeps me away from the main subject..
I have been lurking in the shadows, unable to take a moment for others. Your work is really looking good. Keep it up.

Thanks, Dave, appreciate the feedback. I keep hearing murmurings of this strange little word….composition. 🙂 I’m actually intending to take an online class about that very topic within the next few months and will likely read more about it on my own before now and then. What I liked about the expanse of lawn is that it almost looks like it has a curve to it. I also liked the color against the fog and grey of the house. The path just seemed a wide, paved boring path. So much to learn…but thank you for the compliment! Feel free to lurk and chime in whenever you’d like!

Don’t know exactly where in the Puget Sound area you are, but if you drop by the Tacoma Photographic Society (TPS) (http://www.tacomaphoto.org) meetings, you might find it useful and fun. The calendar is posted under “meetings”.
Seattle Camera club is another one.

Thanks, Dave. I’m down in the Oly area, and, as you know, getting past the base on weeknights can be a bit challenging. However, it looks like the Society meets more towards Lakewood than Tacoma proper, so I may have to check it out sometime. Know anything about the Olympia Camera Club?
