Why do most bartenders not understand the concept of, “I’d like a gin and tonic with lots of lime.” Lots of lime does not mean one extra sliver of dried out lime. Lots of lime means at least 1/4 of a juicy lime. There’s only one local bar that has, thus far, done it right. The first time I asked for extra lime the waitress/bartender asked if I would like her to muddle the lime in the glass. Yes, please!
Bottom line (lime): don’t be chintzy with the lime!

That’s not even what this blog is about. It just happened to be on my mind, so I thought I would share it with you. In case you ever have an opportunity to mix me a G&T.
So, what is this blog about? A little bit of this, a little bit of that. And another walk out at Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. I’m not even going to bother to add links to all of the other times I’ve written and shared pictures about this gem. It’s getting a little ridiculous. If you’re interested, just do a little search on the site and you’ll come up with four or five other entries to enjoy.
Labor Day morning started out quietly enough. A little picking up of the house, a little reading about photography and, finally, around 10, a shower. I had cleaned up part of the garage the day before and the husband suggested taking the old grill, well-used, well-loved and rusted out, to the dump, along with a few other items, including our glass recycling. We prefer to take our glass recycling ourselves to avoid looking like lushes by setting totes out on the side of the road at the end of the driveway.

Feeling, accomplished, we stopped by the husband’s office for a few minutes, after which he suggested stopping someplace for lunch. Now, I did not need lunch out, but french fries sounded really good. However, Labor Day can be a confusing holiday as there is no consistency regarding which businesses are open and which are closed. After stopping by two local places (both closed) we gave up and came home. Our waistlines appreciated that decision. Instead of a burger and fries I had PB&J, a pluot and some Triscuit. It’s now Wednesday. I still want french fries. Actually, I’d rather have tater tots. There is a local bar that has the best tots. Come to think of it, it’s the same bar that does the muddled G&T.
Now I want tots and a muddled G&T.

After lunch we headed to Nisqually, with a stop at one of those top-your-own-frozen-yogurt places. Cake batter yogurt with m&m’s and cookie dough chunks. Good in a different way than the tots.
We arrived at the preserve…along with a whole lot of other people. It must have been the place to go on a sunny holiday as there were cars and people everywhere. The nice thing is that, with all of the trails and boardwalks, it never feels as crowded as it really is. We managed to hit it at high tide. The husband can thank me for that one.

I love Nisqually any time….high tide, low tide, spring, summer, winter, fall. There is always something different to see. The husband gets bored if the tide is out because you’re just walking over a big ol’ mud flat. He prefers to walk on water. This time I wised up. I wanted him to go with me, so I checked the tides ahead of time and, when I suggested Nisqually that morning, I was quick to tell him what time high tide was. Voila! Everyone was happy!

G&ts are my new drinkie-poo 🙂

It must be a good place to live near, because I’m sure it’s true that you’ll see something different very time. We’ve enjoyed a few walks out there – the last one got too hot – low tide and summer sun. But no matter, I’m always, always happy to see a great blue heron. Never gets old. And I agree about the lime!

It’s a favorite place of mine. Particularly pretty this time of year when the leaves begin to turn. And eagles become more common in the fall.
